With the freezing temperatures of winter and the use of central heating, dryness is everywhere: dry skin, dry lips, not to mention dry hair.

Natural and curly hair are generally subject to dryness. Dryness is one of the leading causes of hair breakage and damage; taking steps to maximize moisture will help you achieve healthy hair.

Here are some simple natural hair care tips to help you avoid dry hair this winter.

  1. Moisturize your hair (more) frequently

We say it all the time: moisturizing is essential! Our products are formulated with this in mind. You may need to moisturize your hair more frequently in winter. To moisturize your hair, you should use a water-based moisturizer. Oils are best used after the fact to seal in moisture and they don't really hydrate the hair when used alone.

As mentioned earlier, you may need to moisturize your hair more frequently during the colder months. There are no set rules as to how often you should moisturize your hair, which varies from person to person. If you're used to moisturizing your hair every other day, you may need to moisturize every day in the winter.

  1. Use protective styles

The ends of the hair are the most fragile part of the strand and are the most susceptible to breakage and damage. Protective styles are styles that keep the ends of your hair tucked away

If you go with a protective style, it's important to moisturize your hair before styling, and it's equally important to keep it moisturized while styling.

  1. Stay hydrated

Health starts on the inside and so it's not only important that you're using the right products on your hair, but that you're mindful about what you put into your body. How much water you need depends on your size and activity level but a general rule of thumb is to start with 8 large glasses a day.
